6th Annual Wine Tasting Raises Funds for Forbes Library
NORTHAMPTON, Mass.—The Friends of Forbes Library held its sixth annual wine-tasting benefit at the library on Friday, September 30, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A wide selection of wines were offered along with hors d’oeuvres from local merchants and restaurants. The wine tasting raised over $5,000 from 168 ticket sales. An additional $500 was raised through raffle entries.
“The wine-tasting gala is one of the Friends’ two signature events of the year,” said Martha McCormick, Friends of Forbes Library board president. “Along with June’s garden tour, the wine tasting is a well-known and much-loved event. But it’s special because the library throws open its doors for a real celebration of the arrival of fall.”
The event took place in the library’s main reading and reference rooms. Wines were available for sampling from local vendors, who provided excellent knowledge and information. Appetizers represented the many locations that the wines hailed from and provided the opportunity to sample various cuisines, both domestic and international. Musical accompaniment was offered by Ken Forfia and Friends.
Major sponsors of the wine tasting in addition to the Friends of Forbes Library were Liquors 44, Whalen Insurance, PeoplesBank, and Northampton Rentals.
Net proceeds from the gala will benefit Forbes Library in support of children’s and young adult programs, music and lecture series, preservation of Special Collections, and the library’s book and media fund.
