Local Book Discussion Groups

This is a list of book groups for adults in or near Northampton which are open to new members. It doesn't include groups closed to new members, or connected with membership in particular organizations (for instance, social clubs, churches, or recreational groups). The groups are arranged by municipality in alphabetical order. If you would like a group added to this list, contact us.

Easthampton

  • Monday Night Book Club

    The Monday Night Book Club meets the fourth Monday of each month (*except in May) from 6:30 8 PM. All are welcome to join the discussion.

Florence

  • "I Love A Mystery" Book Club

    Meets on Wednesdays at 7:00 to discuss a mystery novel.
  • Philosophy Discussion Group
    "Bookends" secondhand bookstore, Florence: 413-585-8667
    Reads & discusses the work of academic philosophers; meets on 3rd Thursdays from 7:30-9:30.

Hatfield

  • Hatfield Book Discussion

Northampton

South Hadley

  • South Hadley Book Group

  • Gaylord Library Book Group

    Generally meets the last Thursday of the month at 6:30; books are chosen by the group members.
  • Odyssey Crime Club

    2nd Mondays, at 7:00. Reads crime fiction and mysteries.
  • The Odyssey Open Fiction Book Group

    Usually the third Monday at 7 pm. This literary fiction discussion group is led by Odyssey book group coordinator Ellen Meeropol.
  • Sundays With Shakespeare

    3rd Sunday of every month at 11 a.m. Discussion of a play each month, led by Arthur F. Kinney, director of Renaissance Studies at UMASS.
  • The Active Citizens Book Group

    Join us to discuss current affairs in the US and around the world. Future topics will include the environment, racism, economic and gender inequality, and workers' rights. This group meets monthly on the last Sunday of the month, at 4pm.
