October 2-30, 2024
Reception & Artist Talk: Saturday, October 5, 3:30-5:30 pm

The community painted mural Action: A History of Florence (6’ X 20’, 2023) was painted by 47 volunteer community members. Its location is 4 Depot Avenue, painted on the Florence Paint & Decorating Center wall near a well- traveled bike path.

A selection of the preparation drawings, notebooks, and ideas for this mural will be shown at Hosmer Gallery. These drawings were researched and designed by the design team: Susanne Dudley, Althea Keaton, Nancy Meagher, and Deborah Sacon. Rochelle Shicoff supervised this project.

Research methods that were used for the historical material were: history books, pamphlets, internet documents, videos, on site Florence visits and Historic Northampton, in person interviews with historians, writers, artists, and indigenous community members. The information key is included with the acknowledgments.
