Library Hand

Being an artist is my second career after many years working in and advocating for libraries – an academic library, school libraries and public libraries. I have lived in Easthampton over 40 years  and have been active in the local art scene. I am an artist member of Zea Mays Printmaking in Florence as are my fellow exhibitors here Tony(a) Lemos and Whendy Carter.

I create art to better understand the world in its myriad of complexities and challenges. How do I convey the messages that are important to me?  The location of Hosmer Gallery within a public library is meaningful to my work that hangs here. I look to published or historic documentation to gain inspiration, whether these sources are maps, poems, words, images, book titles or ideas.

Art that Breathes

As a lifelong environmentalist and plant person, my work as an artist and healer sits at the intersection of Art, Ecology and Herbalism. I am a conceptual artist inspired by all aspects of the natural world, and the elements and actively work with the alchemical processes of Green World, be it eco-printing, alternative photography methods or foraging and medicine making. My artwork and healing work is process based centering around relationship, well-being, creativity, connection and co-existence. I believe art and creativity to be an integral part of the healing process.

I’ve spent these past few years developing a creative practice which I call “Art that Breathes” a process based methodology which deepens our connection to the healing plants through collaborative art.

I am delighted to share the space for this show with Whendy Carter and Doris W. Madsen, fellow members of Zea Mays Printmaking.

Recent Works

After 40 years in New York City, I returned to the Valley, and am living my lifelong dream, making art full time. My studio is in one of the old mill buildings in Easthampton, and I print at Zea Mays Printmaking. ZMP is where I have the pleasure of working alongside Tony(a) Lemos and Doris Madsen, both exhibiting with me.

Since childhood, I have been exploring the repetition of patterns and, in recent years, have become a printmaker. Today, the patterns that were originally painted are printed using various techniques including offset and monoprinting.  After completing a large series of papers, in a particular colorway, they are sorted, cut and moved around until I see magic.
