Sisters Reading
This painting was inspired by my reflection about children’s lives during the pandemic. The work also celebrates family and the magic of reading and learning.
The children in this painting are my nieces living in Rhode Island. These girls are the lucky ones, having a safe home, each other, and two parents who are teachers.
Covid has had a profound effect on the world of children, their education and social development. It has also brought digital technology and home schooling to the fore in less than ideal circumstances. Might there be some positive outcomes to find as experiences are shared? We need to listen and observe carefully about how to help students overcome the loss of part of their childhood and better apply lessons learned in the digital age.
