Dina Friedman"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>In San Francisco, A Man Sweeps<\/h3>\n<p>The abandoned camp on our New England river<br \/>\nhas a cracked trampoline once used as a table,<br \/>\na sight so wonderful! \u2026 Not the spilled stuffing,<\/p>\n<p>the craggy mountain in the mist<br \/>\nlike a Chinese painting. Beauty unearthed<br \/>\nin the eye of the beholder. Behold, this picture <\/p>\n<p>of a man in San Francisco, sweeping<br \/>\nswirling litter in the city\u2019s famous gusts.<br \/>\nHis clothing mortars a wall of suitcases <\/p>\n<p>that teeter on top of a trash can.<br \/>\nOnce, a nuke upstream by this New England river.<br \/>\nNow it\u2019s clean, or cleaner.  On the opposite shore, <\/p>\n<p>a spit called Rainbow Beach<br \/>\nnot for its colors, for its promise.<br \/>\nThe length of the river always deceives us. <\/p>\n<p>The man in San Francisco with broom and baseball cap,<br \/>\nperhaps homeless, perhaps could make a home<br \/>\nhere by this river, but the goal of this ekphrastic poem<\/p>\n<p>is to describe and do no more,<br \/>\nwhich means, do not discuss<br \/>\nwhy he is in this picture. <\/p>\n<p>Do not let him move<br \/>\npast the trash, toward that mountain<br \/>\nshooting its disappearing peak out of the vapor.   <\/p>\n<div style=\"clear:both;\" align=\"center\">&nbsp;<br \/>\n<a class=\"previous-button\" href=\"https:\/\/forbeslibrary.org\/exhibit2022\/visual-art\/visual-art\/lorna-ritz-2\/\">Previous<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0<a class=\"next-button\" href=\"https:\/\/forbeslibrary.org\/exhibit2022\/visual-art\/valerie-bassett\/\">Next<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In San Francisco, A Man Sweeps The abandoned camp on our New England river has a cracked trampoline once used as a table, a sight so wonderful! \u2026 Not the spilled stuffing, the craggy mountain in the mist like a Chinese painting.
