I pour milk on dry cereal until it all
\nbut vanishes leaving a few flakes
\nto form islands in a bowl-shaped gulf
\nrising above the flood until it sinks
\nand drowns with the rest of my soggy
\nbreakfast before I can absorb the news.<\/p>\n
I slice fresh zucchini bread fragrant
\nand moist with green and gold flecks
\nreflecting life-giving gardens laid out
\non the toaster oven tray to heat again
\nand neglect until I smell smoke and see
\nonly the black parched Amazon basin.<\/p>\n
I fill the blender with fruit and yogurt
\nand forget the lid until it spins out of
\ncontrol my healthy delicious smoothie
\nas Hurricane Dorian swirls around its
\ncentral blades to chew up and spit out
\nnews of another drowned archipelago.<\/p>\n
I turn the dial first thing in the morning
\nto find out what\u2019s for breakfast today
\nand the switch pours electricity into
\nthe wires to heat up the plate to catch
\nthe sound waves ready to serve me
\nthe last spoonfuls of life on Earth.<\/p>\n
