Where The Wild Was<\/h3>\n

A band of houses stand
\nwhere woods once were,
\nwhere the trail opened up
\nand the tightened world –
\ntree branch, obscured –
\nled us towards swamp
\nand marsh and river and rock,
\nwhere every leap of deer
\nforced us to pause, to ponder
\nthe impermanence of a roam,
\nthe pace of progress
\npushing against the impulse
\nto explore the wild – it\u2019s us, alone –
\nfor all paths embarked upon
\nlead us all, eventually,
\ntowards home<\/p>\n
