The Friends of Forbes Library will hold its seventh annual wine-tasting benefit at the library on Friday, September 22, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A wide selection of wines will be offered along with hors d’oeuvres from local merchants and restaurants. Tickets, which are $30, can be purchased at Forbes Library, the library’s website at forbeslibrary.org, and Liquors 44 on King Street. Tickets will also be available at the door.
“The wine-tasting gala is one of the Friends’ two signature events of the year,” said Martha McCormick, Friends of Forbes Library board president. “Along with June’s garden tour, the wine tasting is a well-known and much-loved event. But it’s special because the library throws open its doors for a real celebration of the arrival of fall.”
Wines available for sampling, provided by Liquors 44’s distributors and importers, include both whites and reds from the United States, France, Italy, and other countries. Appetizers will represent various cuisines, both domestic and international. Musical accompaniment will be offered by Ken Forfia and Friends.
Raffle tickets will be on sale during the event for gift certificates from area restaurants and for some very special bottles of wine.
Major sponsors of the wine tasting in addition to the Friends of Forbes Library are Liquors 44, Whalen Insurance, PeoplesBank, and Northampton Rentals.
Net proceeds from the gala will benefit Forbes Library in support of children’s and young adult programs, music and lecture series, preservation of Special Collections, and the library’s book and media fund.
