The story is a microcosm of what happened in cities and towns all over the United Sates. The battles and campaigns are here, from Pearl Harbor through North Africa, Normandy, Berlin, and the Pacific Islands to Tokyo Bay, but this is not a military history. It is the story of a community at war as seen through its own eyes.
