Dear Forbes Library Supporter,
What is your first memory of visiting your local library? Do you recall excitement about the books, videos, and audio that illuminated more possibilities in that world, and even opened up the possibilities of whole new worlds? What about programs like story time or summer reading that entertained and challenged? Perhaps you enjoyed good company — maybe someone like Paco, Forbes’ fish — in a space that fosters and respects curiosity and exploration.
This fall the Forbes Library is partnering with the Northampton Public Schools to give every kindergarten student the chance for a library card. The Children’s Room librarians, Sarah and Madison, plan to visit every kindergarten class to introduce kids to Forbes Library and distribute applications for library cards. Next spring the librarians anticipate that the requests for cards will be included in the public schools registration for kindergarten students.
Of course Sarah and Madison, along with the rest of staff of Children’s Services, happily anticipate greeting kindergarteners who have not been to Forbes before. They can show parents and students around a facility whose resources support students as they grow, one that can encourage that growth and fosters a life-long love of learning.
Whether you developed your love of libraries as a child or as an adult, your support of Forbes helps in our mission to encourage and support the civic, intellectual, and cultural pursuits of our community. We hope you consider giving generously to Forbes Library again this year.
With gratitude,
Lisa Downing, Director
Russell Carrier, President, Board of Trustees
Katy Wright, Vice President, Board of Trustees
