Forbes Library Racial and Social Justice Advisory Group

We are looking for new volunteer advisors!

The RSJ Advisory Group focus

  • Envisioning services and programming that combat social inequity
  • Creating programming and performance that is relevant to various and broad populations
  • Increasing our presence in the community through effective outreach
  • Raising awareness of current services and programming

You, as a member would bring

  • Your unique perspective
  • Great ideas for Forbes services and programing from your life and experience
  • Connections as we do word-of-mouth and other outreach

What you can gain as a member

  • Joining a community of caring and dedicated members who care deeply about Forbes and Northampton’s diverse populations Forbes serves.
  • A voice in the concrete, actionable steps the Library can take to increase access and support for diverse community members and Library patrons.
  • An active role in strengthening Forbes’ services and programming to enhance the lives in our community.

Examples of outreach and inclusion efforts

  • Increased Bi-lingual Signage in the Library
  • Neighbook Book Box program bringing books out into the community  – Filled Weekly
  • Summer Reading Program
  • Kindergarten Registration Events – visited to distribute Library cards to parents and children

Meetings

  • In person or over Zoom
  • 2-4 times a year
  • Free from the obligation to devote time or effort outside of meetings
  • Able to provide funds to reimburse you for childcare and/or transportation needed  so you can attend.
  • Community service credit for students and others

We invite you to attend a meeting and see if you would like to join this dynamic group.  

Email Lisa Downing, Library Director at director@forbeslibrary.org  and let her know you wish to receive information about the next meeting.  She will email you the date and location to attend in person as well as the Zoom link, giving you the option to join virtually.
