Forbes Library, Northampton’s public library, is governed by an elected board of trustees, as stipulated in the will of Charles E. Forbes. The five trustees, who serve as volunteers, are elected for four-year terms.

The next election of trustees will be in the general election in November 2021 for two positions on the board. One incumbent trustee is running for re-election and the second incumbent has decided to step down at the end of the year. The term of office is four years and the positions are open to any registered voter in Northampton.

To be put on the November ballot for library trustee, individuals must take out papers from the City Clerk of Northampton. These papers are available at the City Clerk’s Office in Northampton’s City Hall by appointment. Applicants need to have their papers signed by at least 50 Northampton registered voters and then return them to the Registrar’s Office in City Hall by July 30, 2021.

Anyone interested in becoming a member of the Forbes Library Board of Trustees is encouraged to contact Library Director, Lisa Downing (director@forbeslibrary.org or 413-587-1016) or any of the current Board of Trustees of the library.
