About the Book

A poet, educator, and community gardener, Ross Gay tends to joy as one would an orchard—from seedlings to harvest, through all seasons of growth. In his collection, Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude, Gay demonstrates the practice of gratitude while never losing sight of the loss that animates it. He draws readers in with flesh and fruit in poems that “feel bold and wild and weird” (American Poetry Review). “Almost no one has the faith Gay seems to have in poetry’s ability to tap grace from the happenings of his life…” (Paris Review). Reading the book “feels like the first time you open the window in spring. That first chilly air. The sun on the sill” (Poetry Foundation). “Whether you’re feeling like you have a whole brass band of gratitude or if you’re feeling like you only have a rusty horn, read this book” (National Book Critics Circle).

Copies of Catalog of Unabashed Joy are available to borrow from the participating libraries in each community. Ebooks and E-audio are also available through Libby.

More about the book including discussion questions can be found on the NEA Big Read website.

About All Hamptons Read

Spearheaded by the public libraries in Northampton, Florence, Easthampton, Southampton, Westhampton, and Williamsburg, All Hamptons Read is partnering to give readers throughout our region the opportunity to come together annually for discussion and exploration around the themes of a book.

This year we are pleased to have an additional partnership with the Big Read Pocumtuck Valley. This program is also supported by the Springfield Public Forum and The Care Center, along with other libraries, organizations and businesses in Franklin, Hampshire, and Hampden counties. PVMA and the Montague Public Libraries will be joined in programming efforts by other members of the collaborative “Food, Farms, and Factories” team (Friends of the Great Falls Discovery Center, MA Department of Conservation and Recreation, and RiverCulture).
