Resources Regarding Calvin Coolidge’s Record on African-American Rights, Native American Rights and Immigration The Board of Trustees of Forbes Library recently renewed its commitment to “seek out and eliminate underlying…me immigration restrictions and celebrated America as a melting pot.” “He told the American Legion convention in 1925 that ‘Whether one traces his Americanism back three centuries to the Mayflower, or three years [ago in] the steerage, is not half so important as whether his Americanism of today is real and genuine. No matter by what various crafts we came here, we are all now in the same boat.’ In a 1926 speech, he said ‘when once our feet have t…

Library users may know John Green best as the author of such popular books as The Fault in Our Stars and An Abundance of Katherines, but he is also a prolific YouTube…rse History. The Penny Whistle Book

A couple months ago, I saw The Penny Whistle Book come up to the Arts & Music library and happened to notice that it was penned by the Incredible String…mpton and see how much one of these whistles costs… Turns out they’re very cheap (something like $10). I cracked the book open, read the introduction and was making sounds and playing scales right away. The slim Penny Whistle Book is filled with traditional American and British tunes with accompanying illustrations that reference the era in which the pieces were most likely composed. The sheet music is also perfect for playing instrumental accompa…

Director’s Update on Reopening

Our staff will not qualify for vaccines until Phase 3 unless they qualify for another reason such as age or underlying health conditions. Our building has limited air exchange and primitive filtration and modifications are not feasible due to the size and type of air handling systems that our 42,000-square-foot building relies upon….

Vice President Dawes

June 16, 2014 — Illustrious ancestors, a profitable business career, and remarkable civilian and military government service does not guarantee successful electoral office.  In Calvin Coolidge’s world, no one better demonstrates this than his…paid for mules in France, he replied, “Hell and Maria, I’d have paid horse prices for sheep, if the sheep could have pulled artillery to the front!” Thus he was ‘Hell and Maria’ Dawes or ‘Helen Maria’ Dawes, as he always insisted. Dawes was appointed the first Director of the Bureau of the Budget in 1921 by President Harding. He served on the Allied Reparations Commission negotiating with European colleagues to find a plan for Germany to pay war c…
